One woman revealed to social media followers why she opted to wear a mask during her recent plane ride.

TikTok user LikeTotallyKelly shared a video on Monday, July 8, in which she warned others not to "make assumptions" about why people wear face masks while traveling.

The video has gone viral on TikTok with over 221,000 views. In her social media post, the user looked directly at her camera while wearing a face mask and holding a drink in her airplane seat.

"I'm wearing a mask because I'm allergic to dogs and there's 3 of them on my flight near me," LikeTotallyKelly wrote in text over the video. "I would rather wear this than see pets go in cargo. Please don't make assumptions when you see someone wearing a mask on a plane."

The user also provided a caption claiming that she “was offered a seat change,” but she declined because she “paid extra to be up front.”

She clarified that she was “not upset over," adding, “I’m posting to show ppl things happe -

n & I didnt make a fuss over it.”

“My choices were: be a sneezy coughing itchy watery eye mess, move to the back, or wear a mask. I chose the mask,” she wrote. “All I ask is don't judge someone who is wearing one because you don't know their reason. 💕.”

Traveling with pets is determined by each individual airline’s established company policy for the “proper handling of the animals they transport,” per the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The use of face masks, orlack thereof, has remained topical in the years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) enforced the CDC's mask mandate for travelers until May 2022, when wearing a facemask became optional.
