“Reminder: it’s not about how hard you fall, it’s about how quickly you get back up,” she joked

Carla Hall is cutting through the seriousness and giving her fans something to laugh about.

On July 19, the chef and Food Network star reminded everyone of her epic fall when she hosted the 2018 James Beard Awards Gala with a throwback video of the moment shared to Instagram and TikTok.

The clip shows the Top Chef alum, 60, running across the stage in heels as she excitedly greets a row of chefs.

But at one point, the tip of her shoe gets caught in her trousers and she goes tumbling into the line of people, causing her to roll over herself twice. She also lost both of her heels in the process.

Two days after the incident happened, she addressed it in a May 2018 episode of The Chew with her then-co-hosts Clinton Kelly and Michael Symon.

“When I felt like I was going down, I said ‘I may be 54, but you need to fall like a 2-year-old.’ I was like ‘Engage the core and just go down!’” Hall also said that she slipped out of her shoes because she was wearing stockings.

“I don’t know what it is about incredibly graceful people where they’re so clumsy. You’re one of the most athletic, coordinated people I know, but you’re so clumsy,” Symons said at the time. Hall didn’t disagree and admitted it wasn’t her first time taking the plunge.

Six years later, Hall can look back on the accident with humor and remind herself of the biggest le -

sson she learned from the blunder: “It’s not about how hard you fall, it’s about how quickly you get back up,” she wrote on the July 19 Instagram post.

“I appreciate everyone on stage with me for their quick action and concern when I took an unfortunate tumble as I entered the stage to give my speech, including the guy who laughed first and asked questions later,” she added.

In the comment section on Hall’s TikTok video, users cracked a few jokes too, one writing, “Read all the comments, went back to the video and honey you was still falling,” and another adding, “Chef Carla Hall: first celebrity stunt chef.”

You can also count on Hall to keep things real. When she chatted with PEOPLE earlier this year ahead of her 60th birthday, she approached the topic of aging with just as much candor and relatability, even when it came to the subject of menopause.

“It used to be a silent journey, and I’m so happy that women are starting to talk about it,” she said, adding that her side effects included brain fog, night sweats and trouble sleeping.

The one thing she found helped her combat her symptoms was a “cocktail” of treatments including collagen, magnesium and hormone replacement theory. “It’s helped me tremendously with energy,” Hall said.
