Los Angeles is getting more production infrastructure.
Sylmar Studios, a new 300,000 sq. ft. production facility, is set to open next month in Sylmar, Calif.
The complex will include six16,000 sq. ft. soundstages, a lighting and grip department, make-up / hair space, dressing rooms, wardrobe, green rooms and production offices. A 600-space parking structure is on the premises.
The studio, which is led by president and general manager Patrick Dempsey, has partnered with Spectrum Entertainment Enterprise division to provide IDF (individual distribution frame) rooms, a high-speed network, and a central plant/chiller system. The building is owned by Bledsoe XC and developed by Xebec Realty Partners. The value of the investment wasn’t disclosed.

It is understood that at opening, Sylmar Studios will have MPA’s Trusted Partner Network certification and operate as a “green studio” with a “zero waste initiative.” The facility is also built in an Opportunity Zone, a geographic area designated to enc -
ourage economic growth and job creation in low-income communities.
Sylmar Studios was designed by Ware Malcomb with XBC Building Companyand Bomel Construction as principal contractors. In October, it was selectedasarecipient of a Community ImpactAwardat the Los Angeles Business Council’s LosAngelesArchitecturalAwards.
Additional details including the names of any productions that it might have committed to use this space when it opens, were not shared.
