Alec's criminal trial comes six months after he submitted a not guilty plea in January, shortly aftera grand jury indicted him on the involuntary manslaughter charge. The same source recently told PEOPLE that the actor is "stressed" and "understandably worried"about the trial, especially after Rust's armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reedwasfound guilty of involuntary manslaughterand sentenced to the maximum penalty of 18 months of incarceration during her April 15 sentencing hearing.

"He has an excellent legal team," the source said at the time. "I don't think anyone is thinking jail time, but given the decision for Ms. Gutierrez-Reed it’s hard to know."

In more than two years since the fatal October 2021 on-set incident, Alec has consistently stated he did not pull the trigger of the prop gun when it discharged, shooting cinematographer Hutchins and additionallyinjuring Rust director Joel Souza. He has also stated he did not know the gun mistakenly contained live ammunition.
