South Park has never been one to shy away from tackling, well, any topic.
This time, the boundary-pushing animated program is taking on the timely issue of Ozempic use for its next Paramount+ special.
The upcoming streaming event, titled South Park: The End of Obesity, will explore how "the advent of new weight loss drugs" has managed to have "a huge impact on everyone in South Park," a description for the special reveals.
"When Cartman is denied access to the life-changing medicine, the kids jump into action," the synopsis concludes.
In a teaser trailer for South Park: The End of Obesity, dropping later this month, Stan's dad Randy explains that "there's these new crazy drugs people are doing." This soon is presented as a solution by a doctor who informs Cartman and his mother, Liane, that it's "time for some drastic measures to bring down" the fourth grader's weight.
"Have you heard of Semaglutides?" asks the doctor, leading Cartman to also ask, "Semaglutides?"
"Ozempic, Mounjaro," the medical profession says.
Though Cartman's buddy Kyle later points out that "t -
his could be dangerous," Cartman — who has stripped down to his briefs — says: "Let's do it."
"We've been out navigating the American healthcare system," the pair's classmate Butters then notes as they're all on the playground at school. "I almost died!"
South Park, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (who also lend their voice to a bulk of the characters), has been airing on Comedy Central since 1997. The series is gearing up for the arrival of its 27th season later this year.
South Park has been renewed through 2027, making it cable's longest-running scripted series as it inches toward its milestone 30th season.
In recent years, South Park has upped the ante with timely specials that stream exclusively on Paramount+, including South Park: Post Covid and South Park: Joining the Pandeverse.
