Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman teamed up on the red carpet for the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine.

On Monday, July 22, the actors playing two titular superheroes appeared at the premiere of the newest entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City.

While on the red carpet, Reynolds, 47, and Jackman, 55, tell PEOPLE what it's like to take their children to work and bring them on the set of an MCU film. Reynolds shares four children with wife Blake Lively, James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, as well as a fourth child born in 2023. Jackman and ex-wifeDeborra-lee Furnessshare son Oscar, 23, and daughter, Ava, 19.

"I don't profess that my kids are perfectly behaved," Reynolds jokes with PEOPLE. "My four-year-old Betty sort of loves Hugh, like unconditionally," he confesses and Jackman chuckles beside him.

"And she expresses that love through unblinking violence," Reynolds continues. "So she attacks him, thinking she has claws and he has a healing factor — which he might."

Jackman arrived in a dark navy blue suit with a matching button-down. Meanwhile, Reynolds opted for the classic black suit and a crisp white button-down. Reynolds' suit jacket included an embroidered red and yellow heart — the two colors of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine follows Reynolds and Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine respectively as they team up to “defeat a common enemy,” according to the movie’s official synopsis.

Among the supporting cast are Brianna Hildebrand returning as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and -

Shioli Kutsuna as the Japanese mutant ninja Yukio, as well as Emma Corrin and Jennifer Garner, who will reprise her role as Elektra from the 2003 Daredevil film.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Reynolds previously in 2021’s Free Guy and 2022’s The Adam Project. Levy said the two Canadian filmmakers first met for a movie that never came to fruition but immediately hit it off — which Reynolds’ costar Jackman predicted would happen back in 2010.

“Hugh said, ‘For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop,’ ” Levy recalled to PEOPLE, referring to his time on the set of 2011’s Real Steel.

“That was 2010,” Levy added. “Hugh Jackman, the prophet — a little-known special talent.”

But Reynolds and Jackman also share a special brotherly bond. Despite their history of playful fake sparring over social media, the duo share a deep real-life friendship.

“We rely on each other for the real kind of advice that you want,” Reynolds said to PEOPLE in the cover story from June 10.

“There’s probably fewer friends in our life that you can say anything to, the stuff you’re ashamed, embarrassed, anything,” Jackman said to Reynolds during their interview of each other.
