Quaker Expands List of Recalled Granola Bars and Cereals Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

24 cereals, granola bars and snacks were added to the growing list of Quaker recalled items

The Quaker Oats recall list has been updated.

Cereals, granola bars and snacks were recalled from the brand back on Dec. 15 for potential salmonella contamination. Now, 24 Quaker Oats Company's granola bar and granola cereal products have been added to the brand’s recall, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Among the products are various flavors and variety/value packs of Quaker Chewy Bars (including the "Less Sugar" option), Quaker Big Chewy Bars, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars Yogurt, Quaker Chewy Bars Minis, Quaker Chewy Dipps and Quaker Chewy Mini Dipps.

Various flavors and variety packs of Cap’n Crunch Treats Bars, Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Quaker Chewy Granola Breakfast Cereal, Cap’n Crunch cereal and instant oatmeal, Munchies Snack Mix and Gatorade Protein Bars are also recalled as of Jan. 11. Quaker Puffed Granola, Quaker Simply Granola Oats and Quaker Protein Granola Oats products are also affected.

Not affected by the recall are Quaker Oats, Quaker Instant Oats, Quaker Grits, Quaker Oat Bran, Quaker Oat Flour, Quaker Rice Snacks.

Customers are encouraged to check their shelves for various "Snack Packs" that include Quaker Chewy bars among Frito-Lay -

Chips, cookies, nuts and other Quaker favorites.

The products were sold throughout all 50 states in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan, in stores like Target, Costco, Walmart, Kroger and more.

A full list of impacted products with images is available on Quaker's website. Also, consumers can scan the QR code on food packages to see if it has been recalled with SmartLabel.

To date, the Quaker Oats Company has not received any confirmed reports of illness related to the products covered by this recall, the FDA notes. But salmonella can cause fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Those infected with salmonella may experience symptoms such as diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. "In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis," the FDA says.
