Nicola Coughlan Tells Off Trolls Claiming ‘Bridgerton’ Photoshopped Her Waist to Be Skinnier, Says Wearing So Many Corsets ‘Really Molds’ Your Body

Nicola Coughlanrecently told People magazine that body-shaming trolls claiming Netflix has photoshopped her waist to appear skinnier on “Bridgerton” are entirely misinformed. While it’s true her body shape might be changing, that’s only because of the amount of corsets Coughlan has been required to wear over the course of filming three seasons of the Netflix smash hit.

“I think if you wear corsetry for long enough, your body really molds to it,” Coughlan said in response to the claims. “Sometimes they come in a fitting for a fashion designer and they put a corset on me and I’m like, ‘Oh, you can go tight,’ and they go, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m like, ‘My body now will go whew.’”

“I saw some trolls. They were like, ‘They Photoshopped your waist,’ and I was like, ‘No, they did not,’” Coughlan added.

It’s hardly the first time Coughlan has taken on her trolls. During a Q&A for “Bridgerton” Season 3 earlier this month in Dublin, Coughlan was told that she is “very brave” to do nude scenes in the series.

“You know, it is hard because I think women with my body type — women with perfect breasts — we don’t get to see ourselves onscreen enough,” Coughlan quipped back. “And I’m very proud as a memb -

Coughlan actually asked to be naked on screen in “Bridgerton” Season 3 in order to silence her body-shamers. She told the Los Angeles Timeslast month that she collaborated closely with “Bridgerton” intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot on her Season 3 sex scenes, saying: “You go, ‘Ok, what do I want to show? What don’t I want to show? What’s scripted, and what do I want to add?’”

“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,” Coughlan continued. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked!’”
