One California mom got quite the surprise on Thanksgiving when she learned that her 10-month-old daughter, Nora, was secretly named after a character from Batman: The Animated Series.

The revelation came for Via after her husband, Carson, and his family orchestrated a surprise reveal by playing the iconic episode featuring Mr. Freeze and his wife, Nora Fries. “I thought it was just some random family tradition,” Via tells PEOPLE in an exclusive chat.

“But as soon as I heard the name Nora mentioned in the show, I connected the dots. His mom was even recording my reaction — it was all planned!" she continues.

Originally, Via believed Carson was inspired by the name due to an Instagram influencer, however, after the secret was revealed, she found the name had a deeper meaning for Carson.

“He said Nora added depth to Mr. Freeze’s character and always thought the name was beautiful and wholesome,” she shares.

While initially surprised, Via ultimately embraced the story behind her daughter’s name. She also notes its deeper significance rooted in her religious beliefs. “Nora means ‘light of God,’ and as Christians, that resonated with us, too. So now we have both a spiritual meaning and our Batman connection," she adds.

The TikTok clip capturing Via’s reaction has garnered millions of views, with many parents chiming in about their own experiences sneaking pop culture re -

ferences into baby names.

“I tried to name my son Bruce,” one user writes of Batman's real name, Bruce Wayne. “My wife said no, it’s an old man’s name. 4 years later we had our daughter… Harley," they add, nodding to Batman anti-hero Harley Quinn. Another notes, “My son’s name is Logan,” referring to Wolverine’s name in the X-Men series.

Via was shocked to see how many people have named their children based on comic book characters.

Some commenters, however, have questioned the authenticity of Via's reaction. “Some even think my video is fake,” she says, jokingly adding, “but trust me, I’m not that good of an actor!”

Carson’s love for Batman goes beyond naming their daughter after Nora Fries. Via revealed that her husband “accidentally” proposed to her on National Batman Day, too.

Despite it taking nearly a year to understand the true origin of her daughter's name, Via ultimately believes “both parents should love the name, and it should work for an adult too. But honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about how this played out — it was so sweet and thoughtful.”
