Kenny Ortega Says Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens Are Both ‘Truly Excited’ to Be Pregnant (Exclusive)

The filmmaker spoke to PEOPLE at the 2024 Cam for a Cause Gala on Sunday, June 2 about the 'High School Musical' costars' pregnancies

Kenny Ortega is sharing his excitement over two High School Musical stars' expanding families!

The filmmaker, 74, who directed the musical trilogy starring Ashley Tisdale, 38, and Vanessa Hudgens, 35, opened up to PEOPLE at the 2024 Cam for a Cause Gala on Sunday, June 2 about the actresses’ pregnancies.

“I love that they're pregnant at the same time. Hopefully those little girls get a chance to meet one another and grow up together and become friends,” Ortega tells PEOPLE.

He adds, “Oh, I think both of them are ready. I mean, Ashley was so ready for her first child, and I think Vanessa, same. I think they're really excited, really, truly excited to be mothers.”

Ortega added that he thinks both of the stars have a glow about them right now.

“I've visited Ashley, and yeah, there's a light, a glow around her as a mother,” he says. "It's beautiful. And I see that in Vanessa as well. I'm happy for them. So happy for them.”

baby with husband Christopher French, while Hudgens — who starred as Gabriella Montez in the musical — is expecting her first baby with husband Cole Tucker, 27.

Taking part in a Q&A on her Instagram Stories on Monday, May 20, Tisdale opened up about being pregnant at the same time as her costar.

“How cool is it that you and Vanessa are having babies at the same time?!," a question from a fan read to which the star, who is already mother to3-year-old daughter Jupiter Iris, replied, “It’s very cool! I’m so excited for her and this new chapter in her life.”

Tisdale announced in March that she and French, 42, were expecting their second baby together.

"We can’t wait to meet you ????," she wrote in her caption at the time as she shared snaps of the pair and her baby bump. Their daughter Jupiter Iris also featured in the post, while French wrote in the comments, "???? Here we goooo! I love you. We can do this lol.”

The family also shared a series of snaps in May from their babymoon in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Meanwhile, Hudgens also revealed she was expecting her first baby in March when she debuted her bump on the 2024 Oscars red carpet.

“Oscar’s 2024! One for the books ????????????♥️,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
