Joseph Quinn is planning to make Johnny Storm his own — but gives major props to those who have paved the way by playing the superhero onscreen.

Speaking with PEOPLE for this week's issue ahead of the release of his new horror-thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, the 30-year-old actor says he hasn't spoken with Chris Evans or Michael B. Jordan, who have played the Fantastic Four character on the big screen in previous iterations.

However, he realizes Evans, 43, and Jordan, 37, have given him "big boots to fill, twice."

"They're both brilliant actors and did the amazing job with their interpretation of Johnny," Quinn says. "So I think it's a question of trying to find something ... well, not different. It's going to come from me, I guess."

Adds the Stranger Things alum, "I've definitely been inspired by their portrayals, so we'll see how it goes."

Speaking of Krasinski, Quinn and Lupita Nyong'o are expanding the Quiet Place universe with their newest film that serves as a spinoff prequel to A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part II (2020), both directed by the Office alum, 44.

Helmed this time by Krasinski's story co-creator Michael Sarnoski, A Quiet Place: Day One follows Eric (Quinn) and Sam (Nyong'o, 41) on the very first day extraterrestrial creatures come to Earth and unleash chaos in New York City, attacking any source of noise.

Asked if he himself would survive in a real-life post-apocalyptic environment where making a sound can mean certain death, Quinn tells PEOPLE, "I doubt it, if I'm honest."

"I find it hard to shut up, and that is imperative in survival in this world," he jokes. "I wouldn't bet on me in this race."

A Quiet Place: Day One is in theaters Friday, June 28.
