All celebrities have their own ways of preparing for big red carpet events, and pre-Met Gala, Jessica Biel revealed in a now-viral TikTok that she bathes in Epsom salts.

In the clip, she dumped four bags of the Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt Soak into her bath “with water as hot as you can take it.” She said she soaks for 30 minutes, drinks “tons of water,” and goes “off to bed early” to seal the deal.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Biel elaborated on why the salt soak is her go-to. “Epsom salt baths is a tool I love and use for all things, after traveling, sore muscles, of course, magnesium, absolutely, to sleep well, to de-stress, to, you know, just feel confident in your body to go to a big event like the Met Ball, which is what I was utilizing it for,” she said.

Her choice of Dr. Teals’ formula is fragrance-free and made with pharmacy-grade magnesium sulfate that dissolves quickly in water and is hypoallergenic, so as not to cause any skin irritation. The brand recommends pouring two cups into a bath twice weekly and soaking for 20 minutes.

The bath salts have nearly 3,000 five-star -

ratings, with plenty of customers raving about how effective they are. “Works for both a foot soak or bath,” one shopper wrote, noting that they add their own essential oils. “It performs all sorts of magic, from soothing aching muscles to smoothing and softening rough feet,” another reviewer enthused.

Epsom salts are popular because the salts are pure, crystallized magnesium sulfate, a compound that, when taken orally, has been found to help soothe sore, tight muscles and relieve constipation, among other things. While there is no hard research to support that in saltwater bath form it can permeate the skin and have those same effects, there’s no harm in having a hot soak. Adding a scoop of salts, at the very least, can make your bath feel extra special.

You don’t need a Met Ball to justify a night of indulgent self-care with Dr. Teals’ Pure Epsom Salts. And while you’re in the process of amping up your soaks, you can pick up a few more bath essentials we found on sale at Amazon to elevate the experience.
