We’re sensing a pattern happening, and it’s… polka dots!

There’s been a surge of stars wearing the classic pattern as of late: Jennifer Lawrence stunned on the Oscars red carpet in a custom polka-dot gown and shawl from Christian Dior that truly radiated old Hollywood. Gwyneth Paltrow, another Oscar winner, didn’t attend the ceremony, but she wore a polka-dot blouse to speak on a panel at the end of February.

Chrissy Teigen also wore a polka-dot blouse while visiting Live with Kelly and Mark, as did Kelly Clarkson while hosting an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show in February. Plus, polka dots have always been fair play in the fashion world: The distinguishable print has been worn by Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Katy Perry, as well as Jennifer Garner, who wore a polka-dot midi skirt to the Eras Tour last summer. Margot Robbie also wore the retro print with an iconic Barbie-inspired pink dress.

Polka dots add a little bit of life to any outfit, and they can be toned down or up with bigger or smaller prints and bold or muted colors.

This DKNY polka-dot dress is functional and fashionable: The flared skirt and arm-showing silhouette are superb for sweltering days since you won’t be shrouded in fabric, while the bow and notched-lapel collar offer other points of style interest. It’s very much the type of dress you’d wear to a spring picnic or baby shower. It’s $84 off today -

and comes in sizes 0 to 18.

To replicate Jennifer Garner’s style with the popping pattern, you need to scoop up a skirt. Our two front runners are this Jenny K. Lopez Midi Skirt from Target and this Layton Midi Slip Skirt, which is available at Madewell and Nordstrom. The first is a sarong with large polka dots that can’t go unnoticed and could spice up a plain swimsuit at the beach or pool.

The second skirt costs a bit more at $90, but the print is less gaudy, so you could wear it for work and play. The slit doesn’t go up super high, either, so it’s breathable without showing too much skin.

If your style is more corporate than casual, silk and polka dots are an unfailing mix. This silk skirt from Everlane is under $85 and is adored by shoppers, many of whom own multiple. “I have five of these shirts now at least,” one customer said. “They are simple, beautiful, and classy.”

“The cut is classic and feels like a luxury staple that I’ll have for years,” said a second shopper. “Perfect capsule wardrobe piece for when I want to elevate a work or event look, but still feel comfortable.”

You don’t need an expensive stylist to dress like Lawrence, Teigen, and more stars — just add some pretty polka dots to your closet. Keep scrolling to shop more styles from $28.
