Kitty Song-Covey has a lot of love interests that she will juggle when she returns to Netflix.
The beloved younger sister to To All The Boys I've Loved Before's Lara-Jean (Lana Condor), Kitty (Anna Cathcart), returns for season 2 of her Netflix spinoff series, XO, Kitty, which sees her navigating love, friendship and her family history as she studies abroad in Seoul, South Korea at the boarding school her late mother attended.
Season 2 will premiere on Jan. 16 on Netflix, the streamer announced in a video on Nov. 21 that saw the cast get in on a fun TikTok trend. Per the date announcement video, season 2 will introduce more love triangles, new roommates for Kitty and new classmates.
The new installment of XO, Kitty comes more than a year and a half after season 1 left off with a dramatic cliffhanger, as Kitty came to terms with her crush on Yuri (Gia Kim) and was completely thrown off when Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) confessed his feelings for her in the final scene.
Season 2 will see Kitty return for a new semester at KISS as a single lady who is "ready for a fresh start: no more meddling, no more drama," though she's not against "some casual dating — emphasis on casual," per the official synopsis.
"But she has more to worry about than her love life, as a letter from her mother's past sets her on a wild journey, and new faces at KISS bring change. As secrets unravel and bonds are tested, Kitty will learn that life, family and love are more complicated than she ever imagined."
Like season 1, season 2 will not just be focused on Kitty's love life, which was something Cathcart, 21, tol -
d PEOPLE she thought was "cool" about the show.
"It's not always just about that. There's so much more to Kitty, and so much more to her story and her life," Cathcart said. "I think it's cool just to show that a lot of types of love are important to her, even family love."
When it comes to love, though, Cathcart said she was "very proud" that Kitty was staying true to herself, as scary as her newfound feelings for Yuri felt.
"By the end of it, she doesn't have an answer, like, 'Oh, this makes sense to me. I like Yuri, and it means this, or this label feels right with me,'" she said. "She doesn't have it all matched and fit perfectly, which is also something that I really like about it — is that it is so uncertain, and she's learning to be okay with it and know that's kind of part of the journey and part of what makes it real."
Cathcart continued, "She's been exposed to a whole other world that she's like, 'Love is so many more things than I might have thought it could be, and with so many more people than it could have been,' and just possibilities are opening in front of her eyes."
"That's what so many different people go through in their own lives as well, so I hope they can find comfort in seeing Kitty go through that."
