Former President Donald Trump reacted to Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, following Biden’s inability to recover from a series of missteps and a poor debate performance on June 27 and a loud vocal call from politicians and even celebrities such as George Clooney.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t – And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump’s comments came after Biden announced that he would not be seeking re-election. Biden cited his desire to focus on his presidential duties for the remainder of his term as the primary reason for his decision. -

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden said. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Biden’s campaign had been under pressure from both Democratic Party figures and Hollywood donors after his faltering performance in a CNN debate, where he struggled to counter Trump’s points, often losing his train of thought and fumbling his words. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman was already asking what’s next the Democrats after the disastrous debate, “One reason for that should not be understated: Donald Trump, hewing to a middle-of-the-road script, dodging questions like an ace lawyer about whether he’d accept the election results, tonight did the job of making himself seem more viable than reckless. Whoever the Democratic candidate for president is, be it Biden or someone else, he or she will have to undo that.”
