Johnny Wactor left a mark on the General Hospital cast — especially Sofia Mattsson, who played his on-screen wife.

When asked about the late actor — who died on May 25 at age 37 — Mattsson recalled the supportive, friendly and “super goofy” costar that made the General Hospital set feel like home.

“We shared so many great memories, so many tears and laughter on and off screen,” Mattsson told PEOPLE at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, June 7.

“He's so helpful,” she added when asked how he was as a person. “He just helps supporting everyone. He knows everyone's name. He's just friendly with everyone. He is super, super goofy. And just always made you laugh, and made you feel so comfortable and at home.”

A favorite memory Mattsson has of Wactor — who played her character Sasha Corbin’s husband, Brando Corbin, on the ABC soap opera — was tied to one storyline in particular, she revealed.

“But I really loved when we had a storyline when we lost our baby, because that was just something we really went through together,” the actress said. “And it was so beautiful, watching him make the reality of becoming a father, to a reality for himself.”

“So that was really just cool to see, how much he just dived into that role, and made it real for himself,” sh -

e added.

Wactor — who also acted on NCIS, Westworld, Criminal Minds and more — was shot and killed in the early morning hours of May 25. He was ending his shift as a bartender and walking toward his car when he came upon three armed car thieves attempting to steal his catalytic converter from his vehicle.

On May 29, PEOPLE reported the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined that Wactor's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. His manner of death was listed as a homicide.
