Group Joins Hunt for Missing Student Caleb Harris as Discovered Human Remains Are Still Unidentified

The Uvalde Foundation For Kids says it has joined the search for 21-year-old Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student Caleb Harris, who went missing in March.

On Wednesday, July 3, the foundation — dedicated to ending school violence and established after the 2022 massacre at Robb Elementary — announced that they would be “assembling a special team of volunteers from its STOPNOW school community patrol teams in its Dallas, San Antonio & Bell County chapters, to aide in the ongoing search for Harris.”

“Now is not the time to end the search for this young man," James Earle, team director for the Uvalde Foundation For Kids STOPNOW Patrol, said in a statement. "If anything it should give a renewed hope that persistence and dedication can bring answers, even those we do not wish to hear.” 

“In this case, until the community knows otherwise, we are urging those joining efforts to locate Caleb to stay the course,” Earle continued. “Our foundation will utilize all our resources to aide at this time. Caleb deserves that.” 

The foundation’s involvement comes after the Corpus Christi Police Department said that on June 24, a city employee found human remains in a 40-foot-deep wastewater collection point that was reportedly near Harris’ -

In a news release posted on June 26, police said that the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the remains “bore no obvious signs of homicide” and were “unable to make an identification, nor provide a manner or cause of death.” The remains were sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for further DNA analysis.

Police have said Harris was last seen on March 4 near his apartment complex around 3 a.m. in the 1900 block of Ennis Joslin Road near Texas A&M University's Corpus Christi campus.

Randy Harris, Caleb’s father, told local TV affiliate KIII that Caleb left behind his ID and car keys and “by 3 o'clock his phone was dead."

"He was totally gone,” Randy told KIII at the time. “He doesn't have his wallet. He doesn't have any identification on him."

As of July 3, TV station WOAI reported that, according to city officials, identification of the remains found last month could require weeks.
