Donald Trump Says He Was Shot in Ear, 'Felt the Bullet Ripping Through the Skin' at Campaign Rally

Donald Trumpsays he was "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear" during a shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13.

Trump, 78, issued a statement on Truth Social detailing his injury hours after he was rushed off the rally stage with blood on his face and ear. In the statement, Trump also confirmed earlier reports that both the shooter and a rally attendee are dead, and that another person was "badly injured." (The Secret Service, in its own statement, has since confirmed that two people were critically injured.)

"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear," Trump said in the statement. "I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."

Elsewhere in the statement, Trump thanked the United States Secret Service, and law enforcement, "for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania."

"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured," Trump added.

In a statement, the Secret Service said that the suspected shooter "fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue," and that the person had been "neutralized" by Secret Service agents.

"One spectator was killed, two spectators were critically injured," the Secret Service added.

Joe Bidendelivered brief live remarks following the shooting, saying he "tried to get a hold of Donald" but that the former president was "with his doctors" and" doing well."

"I plan on talking to him shortly," Biden said, before adding that "there's no place in America" for the "violence" that occurred at the rally. "It's sick. That's one of the reasons we have to unite this country. We cannot allow this to be happening. We cannot be like this, we cannot condone this."

Biden continued: "The bottom line is, the Trump rally is a rally that he should have been able to conduct peacefully without any problem. But the idea that there’s political violence, or violence in America like this, is just unheard of. It’s just not appropriate. Everybody must condemn it. Everybody."
