One couple got a surprise after giving their wedding food preferences ahead of their friend's big day.

In a recent post on the popular Reddit thread WeddingShaming, user SometimeTaken recalled receiving an invite to the wedding of their partner's childhood best friend.

"The wedding invite specifically stated 'formal' dress, so we dressed to the gills," the post stated, adding that they were asked on the invitation whether they preferred chicken or fish.

Explaining how they both picked chicken, the Reddit user said they were shocked to get neither chicken or fish when they arrived for the ceremony, and instead had to help themselves to instant noodles.

"The day-of, we met ourselves with a self-serve instant ramen bar. Just, instant ramen, cubed ham, some little vegetables here and there, and kids sized chip bags. To top it off, it was also BYOB," the Reddit user added of also being expected to take their own drinks to the bash.

"We reserved judgment, as our first instinct was that the bride and groom must be down on their luck," they added. "Turns out, NOPE! They’re both well underway into their careers (the bride to be is a professional chef— isn’t that ironic), they own their home, and for their honeymoon they’re jetting off to Cuba."

The person in question said they hadn' -

;t eaten dinner that day thinking they'd get something at the ceremony, claiming they "spent the reception starving and we had to buy fast food right after to tide us over."

"I’ve been to a lot of weddings. I’m not a snob by any means. But that wedding is the tackiest one I’ve ever attended," they concluded.

The post had people talking in the comments section, with one Reddit user questioning whether "something went wrong" with the catering, and the couple "had to scramble to find something" last minute.

The person who shared the original post responded, "You would think! But no, it turns out they held a meal for a separate group of people but shafted the other guests. It wasn’t alerted to the guests or apologized for either."

One commenter insisted, "This makes me both vicariously hungry on your behalf and angry on your behalf. Basically this makes me vicariously hangry."

A further person joked, "Were you allowed at the actual wedding venue, or were you directed to a remote video site, too?" to which the poster replied, "Hahaha kinda wish I was! It’d be the final go-ahead to just up and leave."
