Christina Hall Gets Candid About Fans' Constant Quips that Her Ex Tarek El Moussa Has a ‘Type’ (Exclusive)

Christina Hall’s fans may think her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa has a type — but she begs to differ.

The HGTV star, 40, opened up to PEOPLE about choosing to lean into fans’ remarks that she looks similar to Tarek's current wife, Selling Sunset alum Heather El Moussa, 36. “On social media, everyone's always like, ‘Oh, they look so much alike,’ or ‘Wow, he has a type,’” Hall says, while chatting with PEOPLE ahead of the new season of Christina on the Coast (premiering July 11).

“Obviously, we are both blonde, but we don't really think that we look alike," she adds.

That didn't stop Christina and Heather from playing up their similarities for a series of cheeky promo videos for their new show, The Flip Off, which will star both women, Tarek, 42, and Christina's new husband, Josh Hall, 43,

In the first teaser clip that the three HGTV stars jointly shared on Instagram in May, Heather and Hall are seen standing side by side in matching outfits. “Hi I’m Christina,” Heather says. "I'm Heather," Hall replies.

With a look of confusion, Heather adds, “Wait no, that’s not right,” and the pair begin to twirl their matching blonde locks. Hall says with a shrug, “Must be all that bleach.”

Hall, who also stars on the spinoff Christina in the Country, says that video was inspired by fans' comments, dating back to when Tarek and Heather first got together in 2019.

“That was a play on that and just being funny — that's kind of where that stemmed from,” she says.

While Heather and Hall can now poke fun at fans constantly comparing them, it was not always smooth sailing between the two.

her and Hall were photographed getting into a heated exchange at one of Brayden’s soccer games. The trio later referenced the infamous argument that had fans buzzing in another promo clip for The Flip Off.

Despite the sometimes rocky start, Hall tells PEOPLE that she and Heather are “close” now and that things have been going well between them. 

“We've actually been close for a while,” she says. “We communicate about the kids all the time. She's an amazing stepmom — the kids love her so much.”

Hall continues, “People like to take drama and then spin it and act like no one's getting along, but the reality is everyone's gotten along for a really long time and co-parenting is very important to us.”

She jokes that “everything is actually boring, which is great.”

The Flip Off will mark the first time Christina and Tarek have appeared on a show together since Flip or Flop ended after nine years in March 2022. The new competition series is set to premiere in 2025 and will follow Christina and Josh as they go head to head against Tarek and Heather flipping houses for profit.

Christina is also gearing up for an all-new season of Christina on the Coast, which will feature “huge transformations” that are “bigger than any other season,” she tells PEOPLE. 

Season 5 of Christina on the Coast premieres Thursday, July 11 at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV.
