Martha Stewart is a businesswoman, author, and longtime TV personality, but these days she’s more focused on being a grandmother to her two grandkids — Jude Stewart, 13, and Truman Stewart, 12.

Martha’s only daughter, Alexis Stewart, made her mom a grandma for the first time in 2011 when she welcomed daughter Jude on her own following five years of IVF treatments. Both Jude and her little brother Truman — born in 2012 — were welcomed via surrogate.

The journey included three failed embryo transfers and more than $27,000 per month for IVF procedures. During that time, Alexis leaned heavily on her mom, who “desperately” wanted grandkids.

"She's very supportive," Alexis said on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2007. "She tells me it will happen all the time." Alexis added that her mother provided financial and emotional support.

The Martha Bakes star took to grandparenthood immediately and often shares photos and videos of the celebrations and parties she hosts for her grandkids. "I cooked them the best gourmet meals I could conjure up," she told PEOPLE in 2023. She loves teaching them all about baking, etiquette and arts and crafts — in typical Martha Stewart fashion.

Alexis welcomed Jude on March 8, 2011, at age 45 via gestational surrogate after a long journey with IVF. "Getting Jude was lucky," she told PEOPLE at the time. "I'm happy, but this has been rough."

Martha hosted the little girl’s extravagant stuffed animal-themed first birthday party at Perry St. in Manhattan. “Mother and daughter beamed as they entered the restaurant and saw the decorations for the first time,” Martha shared in Martha Stewart Living. “All we could think of was, ‘What will we do next year?' ” she added.

The Martha Knows Best host has continued hosting events for her granddaughter through the years, including a spa-themed 12th birthday party for Jude and four of her friends, a Thanksgiving feast at the farm and a “fabulous autumn weekend fest” for Jude’s squad, complete with "non-stop activities including pumpkin carving, glamping, hiking, horseback riding, eating, apple picking, and apple cider pressing."

It seems Jude is taking after her grandmother in the crafting department. Martha was particularly touched when she was presented with “the very best birthday card” for her 82nd birthday. "Jude formed the beautiful origami butterflies from craft paper and got everyone here at skylands to write me a message,” she added.

Martha and her granddaughter also share a love for theater and yoga — she took her to Broadway to see Life of Pi in 2023 and -

posted on Instagram about Jude leading a yoga class the same year.

The mogul is often impressed by the teen, even from a young age. When Jude was only 3, Martha called her a “genius” for her ability to learn different languages and various talents. “She’s speaking Spanish and English and she’s going into Mandarin now,” she told PEOPLE. “She’s a linguist … She’s an actor and a dancer and a musician, too.”

She’s also proud of Jude’s top-tier etiquette. "She sits straight, she puts her napkin on her lap, she can eat with chopsticks ... and she's extremely polite," Martha told PEOPLE of going out to eat with her mini-me.

The Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party star even took Jude as her date to the iHeartRadio z100's Jingle Ball in 2023. The teen looked grown up at the event, rocking a chic black sequin-and-feather dress and pin-straight blonde hair alongside her grandmother.

One year after becoming a mom for the first time, Alexis added her son to the family. Truman was born on March 6, 2012 — just two days shy of his sister’s first birthday. Because their birthdays are so close, Martha loves to throw them joint parties — like the one she hosted in 2014.

“We had a giant party! And it was a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom party. They had 170 people,” she told PEOPLE. She was already so impressed with the little boy’s speaking skills by age 2. “He is very good in Spanish — very fluent,” she added. “And he likes trucks. He can identify pretty much any car on the road.”

She was also blown away by his and Jude’s taste in food. “They have an extremely sophisticated palate,” she said of her grandchildren. “They love good food! They love cacio e pepe pasta. They like mushrooms. They like caviar.”

Though he seems to enjoy the finer things in life, Truman also enjoys visiting his grandmother’s farm. During one trip in 2020, the Martha Rules author shared on Instagram how Truman and his sister helped pick veggies, collect eggs, till the garden and feed the animals. After the busy day, they told her they had “perhaps the best day so far at the farm.” She added that the kids got to feed two donkeys — who are named after them — sugar cubes.

In February 2024, Martha took her grandson out for a special day together. The pair attended a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden and sat courtside next to actor Paul Wesley.

"If you look hard enough you see me — orange sweater — and soon to be 12 yr old Truman out for the night at Madison square garden for @nyknicks @celtics game," she captioned the photo.
