Michelle Wie West has been married to her husband Jonnie West since 2019.

The former professional golfer, who began playing the sport when she was just 4 years old, met Jonnie through mutual friends. The couple eventually began dating, got engaged and married.

“The first time they met in person they seemed so comfortable with each other,” Jeehae Lee, a friend of Michelle, told Golfweek in 2021. “It wasn't being too polite or hiding behind something. They were just comfortable being themselves, which I felt was such a good sign. They really are each other's go-tos.”

Michelle and Jonnie's daughter Makenna was born in June 2020. Per Women & Golf, Michelle has spoken about how she'd love her daughter to see her play professionally. “I just want that experience of her, of Makenna watching me play and hopefully watching me come down the stretch and win a golf tournament,” she said. “That would just mean everything to me because I want her to grow up and be a strong woman and all the things that I value, and hopefully whatever she values.”

Jonnie was born in California in 1988. He may have married a golfer, but he comes from a sports family, too. Jonnie's father is NBA legend Jerry West, and he was born to Jerry and his second wife Kristen “Karen” Bua.

The couple had another son, Ryan, while Jerry also has three sons with his first wife, Martha Jane Kane, giving Jonnie four brothers all together.

While he's still involved in the basketball world, Jonnie used to play himself. Per The Org, he played collegiate basketball for four years at West Virginia University. He made four NCAA Tournament appearances, and this included a trip to the Final Four in 2010, too.

At college, Jonnie earned a bachelor's degree in sports management and an MBA in business administration.

Per Jonnie's LinkedIn profile, he has worked at the NBA's Golden State Warriors since October 2012. He's currently the director of pro personnel, a role he's held since October 2021, but he's also been the director of basketball operations and the director of player programs, as well as a scout.

He was also associate general manager of the Santa Cruz Warriors, a minor league basketball team affiliated with the Golden State Warriors, between 2014 and 2016.

In 2022, Michelle and Jonnie appeared on the Studio 22 podcast with host Brock O'Hurn and discussed how they first met. “We met through mutual friends,” Michelle said, with fellow golfer Justin Thomas playi -

ng a large role.

Michelle and her “good friend” Thomas both lived in Jupiter, Florida, while Thomas also knew Jonnie, and had stayed with him and his parents for golf tournaments in the past. Meanwhile, they had other mutual friends.

“This world is small, and it worked out,” Michelle said.

Jonnie proposed to Michelle in March 2019, with the golfer announcing the news on Instagram. She shared a series of photos, including one of Jonnie down on one knee, with the caption "My person for life!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #WieGoesWest."

After the first photo of Jonnie on one knee, she shared a photo of the couple together looking at the camera as she displayed her engagement ring, and another of the pair embracing and looking at each other.

Two months earlier, the couple first went public with their relationship as Michelle shared a photo of them together with the caption, "Got to spend the last couple of days with my ❤️," on Instagram.

I've known Michelle since she was 13, more than half of her life. So, it was quite emotional, seeing her get married. She's going to be a great wife and I'm sure at some time a great mom, in the future.”

In January 2020, Michelle announced that she was pregnant on Instagram. “Babygirl, we love you so much already and we just can't wait to meet you this summer!!” she wrote in the caption.
