Disney Branded Television has greenlit a fourth entry in the “Zombies” movie franchise.
The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim set to reprise their roles as Addison and Zed, with both stars also set to executive produce. Production will begin in March in New Zealand.
The official description of the fourth film states “The franchise’s fourth installment follows Zed and Addison as they embark on a road trip the summer after their first year of college. As adventures unfold, they unexpectedly discover the warring worlds of Sunnyside and Shadyside and come into contact with two new groups of monsters.”
Along with Donnelly and Manheim, Chandler Kinney and Kylee Russell will return as werewolf Willa and zombie Eliza. Freya Skye and Malachi Barton have been cast in the roles of new characters Nova and Victor, described as “mysterious supernatural strangers whom Zed and Addison encounter during their summer travels.”
The original “Zombies” film debuted on the Disney Channel in 2018, followed by sequels in 2020 -
and 2022. They have proven incredibly popular, with the music from the films racking up over 2.7 billion streams across YouTube Music, Disney Channel YouTube and Disney Music Vevo. Soundtracks for “Zombies” and “Zombies 3” hit number one on the Billboard Top Kid Albums chart. The franchise has earned one platinum and five gold singles from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “Zombies: The Re-Animated Series” will debut this summer on Disney Channel and Disney+
Paul Hoen will return as the director of “Zombies 4.” David Light and Joseph Raso will once again write along with Josh Cagan. Hoen, Light, Raso, Donnelly, and Manheim all executive produce along with Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky. Mahita P. Simpson is co-executive producer. Bloor Street Productions will produce.
