A 56-year-old woman died while hiking on a Utah trail in extreme heat.

The incident occurred near Quail Creek State Park on Sunday, July 21, when temperatures reached 106 degrees, according to the Hurricane City Police Department.

Police were notified of a woman who was "in distress" because she did not have enough water on her hike, per a news release.

Officers found the female hiker on the trail in an "unresponsive" state. They conducted "life saving measures," but she succumbed to her injuries. Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hurricane Valley Fire and the State of Utah Department of Natural Resources assisted in the rescue.

Per the police department, the woman’s identity will not be released at this time because of an ongoing investigation.

The state park released a statement on social media in July about extreme heat. "It’s important to stay hydrated and make sure you have enough electrolytes in your system," they wrote on a day where temperatures in area were expected to reach 113 degrees.

"You can lose up to 1 liter of water per hour," they added. "Please be sure that you are drinking enough water to replenish that amount."

Earlier this month, a 52-year-old Wisconsin man and his 23-year-old daughter were found dead after they got lost hiking in Canyonlands National Park amid triple-digit temperatures.

The National Park Service said in a statement at the time that the "individuals were already deceased" when they arrived on the scene.

In a separate incident on July 13, a 30-year-old woman died at Stone Canyon State Park.

According to Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety, responders were responding to a report that two people "were suffering from a heat-related incident." After locating the two individuals who had signs of heat exhaustion, the department was notified of a nearby third individual who was unconscious.

"The individual was identified as a 30-year-old female," officials said. "First responders located the individual, and it was determined that the individual was deceased."
