Colin Jost may have some explaining to do to wife Scarlett Johansson after the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live.

On the show's winter finale on Saturday, Dec. 21, Jost, 42, and Weekend Update co-host Michael Che were forced to read jokes they had never seen before — per the show’s biannual tradition. The prompts are designed to get the comedians in hot water, and this year was no exception — especially when it came to jokes about Johansson, 40.

The actress, who appeared in the show’s opening monologue, watched the Weekend Update segment in real time with a camera trained on her face to capture her reactions as Jost began nervously reading his cue cards.

“Hey boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday,” Jost said, while already looking worried about what was to come next. “Which means I’m about to get up out of there!”

“Nah, nah. I’m just playing,” he continued. “We just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t see no pictures of him yet ’cause he Black as hell.”

The camera then cut to Johansson, who shook her head while grimacing.

Later in the segment, Jost announced that “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from their menu,” adding, “But I ain’t tripping, I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid” — before lowering his face in his hands in apparent horr -

or. Johansson looked shocked, mouthing, “Oh my God,” from backstage.

This isn’t the first time Jost has been forced to poke fun at his relationship for the sake of the show. During the season 49 finale in May, Jost looked at the camera during the Weekend Update segment and said, "ChatGPT has released a new voice assistant feature inspired by Scarlett Johansson's AI character in Her. Which I've never bothered to watch, because without that body, what's the point of listening."

The joke was in reference to a high-profile dispute between the actress and OpenAI, which resulted in Johansson threatening legal action against the company.

Johansson and Jost have been romantically linked since 2017 — though their first encounter was back in 2006 when Jost was a young writer on SNL and the Avengers star hosted an episode.

The couple tied the knot in October 2020 after three years of dating. They welcomed their son Cosmo, 3, in 2021. Johansson is also mom to Rose Dorothy, 10, from a previous marriage.
