Glen Powell may be getting back in the cockpit sooner rather than later.

As Powell, 35, appeared on the July 22 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast — taped live at 92NY in New York City on Thursday, July 18 — with his Twisters costar Daisy Edgar-Jones, the actor appeared to suggest he knows when he will begin filming a sequel to his 2022 smash hit Top Gun: Maverick.

"I mean, I have a date," Powell said, when the podcast's host Josh Horowitz asked him and Edgar-Jones, 26, whether audiences can expect Top Gun 3 or a sequel to Edgar-Jones' 2020 miniseries Normal People sooner.

"Do you have a date?" he asked Edgar-Jones, who shook her head at the notion of an incoming Normal People sequel series. "Okay. Then probably me."

"Any news you want to share tonight?" Horowitz then asked, to which Powell deadpanned: "Absolutely not."

"Josh, we should go to the next question," he added, after the host asked whether Powell knew more information about Top Gun 3 that he could not share.

Powell, as well asTop Gun: Maverick's costars Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, have been fielding questions regarding when they may make a sequel ever since the movie flew into theaters in May 2022. After rumors began to swirl that Paramount was developing a follow-up in January, Powell similarly deadpanned that his knowledge of the p -

The actor portrayed Lt. Jake "Hangman" Seresin inMaverick, which served as a sequel to Cruise's 1986 original Top Gun. The recent movie sees Cruise, 62, reprise his role as Navy officer and pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he trains Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Teller, 37) and Powell's character, among others, for a new and dangerous mission.Jerry Bruckheimer, who produces the Top Gun series, told PEOPLE back in March that the movie remained in the works, though he did not lay out a clear timeline for when filming could begin.

"We pitched Tom a story he liked. But he's a very in-demand actor and he's got a lot of movies lined up, so we have to wait and see," he said at the time.

Cruise did attend the recent European premiere of Twisters with Powell, who said elsewhere on Happy Sad Confused that his Top Gun costar "freakin' loved" the new disaster film.

"He was going wild during that movie," Powell said, echoing Anthony Ramos' thoughts on Cruise's reactions to the new film.

Powell's latest movie Twisters is in theaters now.
