Camila Cabello is revealing the inspiration behind her new platinum do.

"You know, I felt like I needed a big, physical change," the "Señorita" singer shared on a recent episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast. "I feel, I don't know, my dark hair has been with me for all of my life, like it was just a significant part of how the public saw me, how the world saw me, and how I saw myself."

"I feel like it's just been a year of, like, the theme has very much been 'play' and 'transformation' and changing and being brave," Cabello, who celebrated her 27th birthday on March 3, continued. "But I feel like also the music is so different, the world is so different that for so many reasons I was like 'I feel like physical change needs to accompany that.'"

While deciding whether or not to go through with the switch, Cabello explained that she tried on a couple of wigs to test out how she would feel. "I definitely think you need to try wigs because it's such a big change," she advised. "But I do feel like everyone should do it... it brings out a different part of your personality. It's kind of like a yolo."

“Camila wanted a big moment for 2024, and what bigger moment than her going platinum blonde! A color she has never been before," colorist Nikki Lee said in a statement. "Our promise to each other was we could do it, but only if we kept her hair as healthy as possible. -

We got her to this color with three appointments."

Lee emphasized the importance of patience when transitioning from "almost black hair to platinum blonde hair" and stressed the need to understand that it's a gradual process.

"We used L’Oréal Paris Féria Toner in Icy Blonde as an easy way for her to eliminate any brassiness and keep her hair shiny until she can get back into the salon to see me," Lee shared. "We’re loving everything about this change on her; she’s glowing, and it’s definitely channeling 2024 vibes!”

Besides talking about her hair, Cabello also opened up on the podcast about her past relationship with Shawn Mendes. During the episode she touched upon how the pair reunited in spring 2023, two years after theycalled off their romance in 2021.

“I, personally, I think it’s known, I’m a fan,” the “Havana” singer said on the podcast of reconciling with former flames, explaining that she finds it “helpful.”

“I’m kind of impulsive in that way, I would say,” Cabello shared. “If I feel it, I say it and I’m not really good at not doing that. Because the worst place for it to live is my mind, and then I’m likeRyan GoslinginThe Notebookbuilding a house for this person. I would rather say it and see what happens.”

She concluded, “I opted for that route. ... It is what it is. It was a great route, it was a fun time. It was a fun moment.”
